Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Creative Mobilization Initiative for Development (CMID) is a company limited by guarantee, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (RC 9927509). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you join CMID or contact us, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We handle your information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Who we are

CMID is a civic organisation. We help government programmes and public services reach communities, and we explain them in plain language. We are not a government agency. You can contact us about your information at [email protected].

What we collect

When you join, we ask for:

  • Your full name, phone number and gender
  • Your email address (optional)
  • Your passport photograph
  • Your location: zone, state, local government area and ward
  • Your preferred language
  • Your National Identification Number (NIN)
  • Your voter’s card number (optional)

We give you a member number, which appears on your ID card. If you write to us through our contact form, we collect your name, phone number, email address (optional) and your message.

Why we collect it

  • To register you as a CMID member and issue your digital ID card
  • To connect you with your state’s WhatsApp group
  • To contact you about CMID activities, in your preferred language
  • To confirm that members are real people and to prevent fake or duplicate registrations
  • To reply to your messages
  • To consider members for leadership roles, which CMID decides after review

Your NIN and voter’s card number

We ask for your NIN to confirm that members are real people and to prevent duplicate registrations. Your voter’s card number is optional, and you can leave it blank. We keep both in our private records. We never show them publicly, on your ID card, or on our verification page.

Who can see your information

  • CMID officers: only people authorised by CMID, and only when their work requires it.
  • Our verification page: when someone scans your ID card or enters your member number, the page shows only your first name and the first letter of your last name, your state, your ward, and whether your membership is active. It never shows your photo, phone number, NIN or voter’s card number.
  • Getting your card again: our “Get My ID Card” page shows your card only to a person who enters the phone number you registered with and the last four digits of your NIN.
  • WhatsApp groups: when you join a group, your WhatsApp name and phone number may be visible to other group members. This is how WhatsApp works.
  • Our service providers: our website hosting company stores our data for us. The QR code on your card is generated by an outside service that receives only a number that identifies your card.

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the service providers described above, or where the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you are a CMID member. When your membership ends, or when you ask us to remove you, we will delete your information within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep something.

Your rights

You may ask us to:

  • Show you the information we hold about you
  • Correct anything that is wrong
  • Delete your information and end your membership
  • Stop using your information in a particular way

You may also withdraw your consent at any time. To do any of these, email [email protected] from the email address or phone number you registered with. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

How we protect it

Our website is protected by a security service, and access to member records is limited to authorised officers. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Who can join

CMID membership is for people aged 18 and above.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
